Bio

Few coaches can claim they have been associated with success at every level like Jim Davis.

Davis arrived at Roane State in the fall of 1979, and in just one year, he built the Lady Raiders into a winning program. That first team went 20-5 and set a high bar for those to follow. Over the next three seasons, his teams went 27-1, 30-5, and 25-6. He finished with a 102-17 record over four years.

After Roane State, Davis went on to become a top assistant at Middle Tennessee and Auburn, and later the head coach at Clemson, where he compiled a 223-135 record from 1987 to 1999. His accolades at Clemson include:

  • 2 ACC Tournament titles
  • 2-time ACC Coach of the Year
  • 3 Sweet Sixteen appearances
  • 7 NCAA Tournament appearances

In 2003, Davis was named head coach at Furman University, where he stayed until retiring in 2010. He later came out of retirement to coach at Tennessee Tech from 2012 to 2016.

Davis’ passion and leadership left a lasting legacy at every school he touched, including Roane State, where the winning tradition began.
