Bio
Coach Pete, as he was generally known, was born in Huntsville, Alabama, and played catcher at Jacksonville State University. Following college, he became an assistant coach at Middle Tennessee State University for two seasons (1976–1978) before being named head baseball coach at Roane State Community College.
For nine seasons, from 1979–1984, Peterson's Raiders posted a record of 153–96, and he was twice named TJCAA Coach of the Year.
Coach Pete returned to Middle Tennessee as an assistant coach following the 1984 season and, in 1988, became head coach of the Blue Raiders.
Over 25 seasons, he became the university’s all-time winningest baseball coach, finishing with a career record of 791–637–2. Peterson’s teams won 11 regular-season conference championships, nine conference tournament championships, and appeared nine times in NCAA Regionals, including two as at-large selections.
