Bio

Chris Griffin was recruited to play golf at Roane State in 1978. During his first year, he qualified for the 1980 JUCO National Championship.

After two years, Griffin transferred to Tennessee Tech University, where he obtained his electrical engineering degree. He was then hired by TVA and worked there for 38 years.

Coach Griffin has been Roane State’s men’s golf coach since the restart of the program in 2018. He also coached the women’s team for their first two seasons. During his tenure, the men’s golf team has:

  • Won five tournaments
  • Sent three players to the national tournament
  • Won the Southeast District Conference Tournament (2023)

Griffin’s 2022–2023 team also became the first to participate as a team in the DII National Championship and produced the first two players in program history to make All-American.

Chris says his love for coaching began with watching and coaching his three children while they participated in youth sports. Coach Griffin says his goal has been creating a culture of family and fun.
